Common Questions
Why does the app need Screen Recording permission?
macOS requires Screen Recording permission for any app that captures screen content. Without it, the app can't take screenshots. You can grant this in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen Recording. The onboarding wizard will guide you through this on first launch.
My hotkeys aren't working
First, make sure Horizon Screenshot is running (look for the viewfinder icon in your menu bar). If it is running, check that Screen Recording permission is granted — macOS can silently revoke it after system updates. Open Settings from the menu bar icon to verify. You can also re-record your hotkeys in Settings → Hotkeys if there's a conflict with another app.
How does scroll capture work?
Press the scroll capture hotkey, then drag to select the region you want to capture. A floating control bar appears. Click Start, then scroll through the content at a steady pace. Click Done when you've scrolled through everything. The app automatically detects overlap between captured frames and stitches them into one tall image.
Where are my screenshots saved?
By default, screenshots save to your Desktop with timestamp names like “Screenshot 2026-02-17 at 14.32.05.png”. You can change the save location in Settings → General → Save Location.
How do I activate my license?
After purchasing, you'll receive a license key via email from Lemon Squeezy. Open Settings → License and paste your key. Click Activate. If you have trouble, make sure you're connected to the internet and the key is copied exactly.
What happens after the trial?
The 14-day trial is fully functional — no features are limited. After it expires, the app continues to work but shows a gentle reminder to purchase. The app never stops working or locks you out.
Why isn't this on the Mac App Store?
The Mac App Store requires apps to run in a sandbox that blocks screen capture APIs. All serious screenshot apps for Mac are distributed as direct downloads. Horizon Screenshot is notarized by Apple, which means macOS has verified it's free of malware.
